Hair Extensions in Washington, DC

Premium extensions, certified application, and the most natural-looking results in DC.

Length. Volume. Density. Color you can't quite achieve with your own hair. Whatever's brought you to extensions, getting them right is about more than just the hair — it's about the brand, the method, the placement, and the colorist behind it.

At Kiss Salon, we're certified in Hairdreams, Bellami, and Great Lengths — three of the most respected hair extension brands in the world — across every major application method. Our specialty is Hairdreams Nano-technology, the most invisible and lifestyle-friendly extension method available. Every extension service begins with a complimentary consultation to design the right match for your hair, your goals, and your life.

Why the Brand and the Method Matter

Most clients researching hair extensions discover two things quickly:

  1. Extensions are an investment. Premium extensions cost more upfront — and they're worth it. Cheaper extensions tangle, shed, lose their tone, and damage natural hair faster than they save you money.

  2. The colorist matters as much as the brand. Even the best extensions in the world look obvious if they're cut, blended, and toned poorly. The technique is the product.

That's why Kiss Salon only works with three brands — the ones we trust to be safe for your hair, last for the full expected timeframe, and look genuinely undetectable. And it's why every Kiss Salon stylist offering extensions is trained directly under our founder Jean Claude Macrez in the French approach to extension work: precision placement, custom color matching, and seamless cutting and blending.

Application Methods Explained

Choosing the right extension method matters as much as choosing the right brand. Here's a quick guide to the methods we offer:

Hairdreams Nano-technology (our specialty) The smallest, most invisible bond available. Tiny rings the size of a grain of rice are attached to small sections of natural hair using a keratin-based bond. Comfortable, undetectable, and the most lifestyle-friendly method we offer.

  • Duration: 4–6 months

  • Reusable hair: Yes

  • Maintenance: Every 8–12 weeks

K-Tip (Keratin Fusion) Pre-tipped extensions with a small keratin bond melted onto natural hair using a heat tool. Long-lasting and beautiful, ideal for clients who want a more permanent feel.

  • Duration: 3–4 months

  • Reusable hair: Sometimes

  • Maintenance: Every 8–12 weeks

I-Tip (Bead/Micro-Link) Pre-tipped extensions attached using small silicone-lined beads — no heat or glue. Gentle on hair and easily adjustable.

  • Duration: 3–4 months

  • Reusable hair: Yes

  • Maintenance: Every 6–8 weeks

Hand-Tied Wefts A weft of hair is sewn into a beaded foundation track placed across the head. Lies flat against the scalp — popular among clients with finer hair or those wanting volume more than length.

  • Duration: 6–8 weeks per move-up

  • Reusable hair: Yes, multiple times

  • Maintenance: Every 6–8 weeks

Infinity Wefts (Machine-Tied) A more affordable weft option with a thinner, machine-stitched track. Quick installation, comfortable wear.

  • Duration: 6–8 weeks per move-up

  • Reusable hair: Yes

  • Maintenance: Every 6–8 weeks

Tape-In Extensions Pre-taped wefts attached in pairs sandwiching natural hair. The fastest installation method we offer.

  • Duration: 6–8 weeks per move-up

  • Reusable hair: Yes

  • Maintenance: Every 6–8 weeks

Clip-In Extensions Removable extensions you put in and take out yourself. Perfect for special events, photoshoots, weddings, or experimenting before committing.

  • Duration: Reusable for years

  • Reusable hair: Yes

  • Maintenance: None — they're yours to keep

Cold Fusion / Hot Fusion (Great Lengths) Keratin-bonded extensions applied with either cold ultrasound or low-heat tools. The original fusion method and gold standard for longevity.

  • Duration: 4–5 months

  • Reusable hair: No

  • Maintenance: Every 12–16 weeks

Not sure which method is right for you? That's exactly what your consultation is for — we'll recommend the best match based on your hair type, lifestyle, and goals.

Who Are Hair Extensions For?

Extensions work beautifully for clients who want:

  • More length — adding 4 to 16 inches of healthy, beautiful hair

  • More volume — making fine or thinning hair feel full and dimensional

  • More density — covering thin areas, postpartum loss, or hair recovery

  • A custom color — adding highlights, lowlights, or fantasy color without committing to lightening your natural hair

  • A special event look — temporary extensions for weddings, photoshoots, or red carpet moments

Extensions also work for medical hair loss — chemotherapy recovery, postpartum thinning, alopecia, and surgical scarring. We work with each client carefully and respectfully to design extensions that restore confidence.

How the Process Works at Kiss Salon

Step 1: Complimentary Consultation (30 minutes)

Every extension client starts with a free consultation. We'll discuss your goals, examine your hair's condition, talk through your lifestyle, and recommend the right brand and method. We'll also custom-color match your extensions to your natural hair — a process that may require a color appointment before or with your install.

You'll leave the consultation with:

  • A recommended brand and method

  • A price quote (always provided in advance)

  • A timeline for ordering and install

  • An understanding of maintenance schedule and cost

Step 2: Custom Order

Your extensions are custom-ordered to match your hair. Lead time is typically 2–4 weeks depending on the brand, color, length, and quantity.

Step 3: Installation (2–5 hours)

Installation time depends on the method and the amount of hair. Tape-ins and hand-tied wefts can be installed in 1.5–2 hours. Full keratin or Nano installations may take 3–5 hours.

Step 4: Cut, Blend, and Style

Once installed, your stylist will cut and blend the extensions seamlessly into your natural hair. This step is what separates an obvious extension job from an undetectable one — and it's where French training shows.

Step 5: Aftercare and Maintenance

You'll leave with a detailed home-care routine, the right products (we'll recommend specific Oribe and Milbon products for extensions), and your next maintenance appointment booked.

How to Care for Your Extensions

Great extensions can last for months, but only if you care for them well. We'll send you home with a custom plan, but the basics:

  • Brush gently with an extension-safe brush twice daily — once in the morning and once before bed

  • Use sulfate-free, sodium-free shampoo and conditioner — we recommend specific Oribe and Milbon formulas

  • Wash less often — 2–3 times a week, never daily

  • Always condition mid-shaft to ends — never apply conditioner directly to the bond/attachment

  • Sleep with hair loosely braided or in a silk scarf to prevent tangling

  • Heat-protect always before using any hot tool

  • Don't sleep with wet hair — always dry before bed

  • Skip products with sulfates, alcohol, or oil at the bond

  • Schedule maintenance appointments on time — moving extensions on schedule protects your natural hair

We carry a curated selection of extension-safe products in the salon, and your stylist will set you up with exactly what you need.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Extensions

Will extensions damage my natural hair?

When installed correctly, maintained on schedule, and cared for properly, premium extensions do not damage natural hair. Damage almost always comes from poor application, skipped maintenance, or aggressive removal. We use only certified application methods and remove all extensions safely with the right tools and products.

How long do extensions last?

It depends on the method:

  • Tape-ins: 6–8 weeks per move-up

  • Hand-tied wefts: 6–8 weeks per move-up

  • Nano-technology, K-tip, fusion: 3–6 months before reinstall

  • The hair itself can often be reused for 6–12 months total before replacement

How much do hair extensions cost in DC?

Premium extensions at Kiss Salon range from $500 for clip-ins to $5,000+ for a full transformation. Most clients invest $1,500–$3,000 for their first full install. Maintenance is typically $200–$600 every 6–12 weeks depending on method.

Can I color my extensions?

Extensions are pre-colored, but glossing, toning, and small color adjustments can be done by our colorists. Major color changes (significantly lighter or darker) typically aren't recommended on already-installed hair — we'd order new extensions in the new color instead.

Can I work out, swim, and sleep normally?

Yes — with the right method. Nano-technology, fusion, and hand-tied extensions are designed for active lifestyles. We'll recommend the right method based on what you do.

Will people be able to tell I have extensions?

Not when they're done well. Custom color matching, proper placement, and skilled cutting and blending make premium extensions virtually undetectable. We'd rather take an extra 30 minutes blending than have you walk out with anything obvious.

Can I get extensions if I have fine or thinning hair?

Yes — and this is one of our specialties. Hairdreams Microline and Nano-technology are specifically designed for fine hair. We'll examine your hair at consultation and recommend the safest, most natural-looking method.

Do you offer extensions for medical hair loss?

Yes. We work with clients recovering from chemotherapy, postpartum hair loss, surgical scarring, and alopecia. The consultation is unhurried, private, and respectful — we'll design the right solution together.

How do I prepare for my installation appointment?

Come with clean, dry, freshly washed hair. Plan for the appointment to take 2–5 hours depending on your method. Eat beforehand and bring something to do — a book, headphones, or laptop. We provide refreshments.

Can extensions be removed?

Yes — all of our methods are designed to be safely removable. Removal is included as a service ($75–$200 depending on method) and takes 30–90 minutes.

Do you offer financing?

We're happy to discuss flexible payment options at consultation. Many clients choose to break their initial install into deposit + installation payments.

Why Choose Kiss Salon for Hair Extensions in DC?

Extensions are one of the most personal services a salon offers. The right choice of brand, method, color, and colorist matters more than almost any other service we do. Here's what sets Kiss Salon apart:

Three premium brands under one roof. Most salons partner with one extension brand. We're certified in three — Hairdreams, Bellami, and Great Lengths — so we can match you to the right brand instead of forcing you into the only one we offer.

Specialty in Hairdreams Nano-technology. Our most-requested method, and one few DC salons are certified in. Nano is the most invisible, lifestyle-friendly extension available.

Master-level color matching. Custom color is what makes extensions truly undetectable. Our colorists tone, gloss, and adjust extension color to match your natural hair seamlessly — using the same Goldwell, L'Oréal Professionnel, and Redken color we use for all our services.

Precision cutting and blending. A great extension install ends with French-trained cutting. The cut is what makes the difference between "extensions" and "amazing hair."

Honest consultations. We'll tell you which method is right for your hair, your life, and your budget. We won't oversell you. We won't undersell what you need either.

Long-term relationship. Extensions are an ongoing service, and the relationship with your stylist matters. Once you find your match at Kiss Salon, you'll have a stylist who knows your hair, your color, your install history, and your goals.
